Some of you know I am in the military and some of you do not. Let me explain something like everyone else I have many faults and issues and there are certainly many far better and more deserving people out there doing what they do best to make the world a better place so you can imagine when to my great surprise a dear friend of mine, we'll call him Red Coat (a nickname he likes to go by he's British after all) presented me with a poem he wrote about me. What many of you do not know is that I am a certifiable Dragon Nut! I have Dragon stickers on my vehicle! Yes I am one of them! Anyway my best mate Red Coat just like me is an enlisted NCO and leader among leaders. Now Red Coat is the guy who wins and deserves all the awards and medals and praise his amazing work ethic and dedication deserves he is nothing but EPIC WIN! Me on the other hand I am the guy who stays in the shadows and makes sure my troops and coworkers get all the praise and awards and so forth and Red Coat says to me all the time "Dragon (that's what I am known as around the office :D )nobody knows the late hours and work you put in just so your people get the recognition that you rightly deserve." To which I reply exactly as it should be!  So before he was reassigned and left this base last month he presented me with this literary master piece dedicated to me. I had no idea he was so friggin talented! I'm usually the guy who will time permitting draw a picture to cheer someone up or just to make there day a little better but to date in my 39 years of life only :iconkjara-grissaecrim: and my mate Red Coat have ever used there talents for my sole benefit without being asked and for this I am so utterly grateful! As I tell people it takes a little bit out of me to draw every time and so as an artist it means the world to me when someone takes from themselves just for me. Anyway that's enough preamble see my buddies poem below.

The Great Dragon

Read of the Great Dragon, and you'll know
Of joy, and selflessness
And bounteous woe
For it is hard to be the key to king
And heart to sing
And everything

He lived in a mountain, covered in snow
And the kingdom existed, far, far below
The people knew him wealthy and generous
All counted him friend, no matter how callous
He was wise, patient, and kind like a father
But the children he'd had, could not have been farther
He'd given his heart, and his soul had been shown
But none could stay with him, he was left all alone
So he cared for his kingdom, though he did not rule
He protected from harm, and warmed when too cool
He expended his effort on hundreds not his own
The energy he gave left him naught skin and bone
But it was a happiness to him to see peoples' smiles
So it pushed him to greatness, making inches to miles
The people knew they could ask for a favor
He'd never deny it - no matter the labor
So one day the king came to the Dragon's home
He asked the Dragon for a significant loan
The Dragon said "Yes, how much can I give?"
Said the king "All you have, is what we need to live"
The Dragon thought for a second, a short one too
His people couldn't suffer, only one thing to do
His money and treasure, all he had he gave
The king left with a smile, at the money he'd save
He wanted war with a neighbor, it would use all his gold
So why not use the Dragon's - let him pay the toll

The king came to the Dragon in one month more,
And said that the kingdom was in a great war
He didn't start it (he said knowing he lied)
But his warriors were failing, and many had died
A dragon's fire would leave his enemies well-fried
Weapons made from it could turn the war's tide
The Dragon said "Yes, how much can I give?"
Said the king "All you have, is what we need to live"
The Dragon thought for a second, a short one too
His people couldn't suffer, only one thing to do
His fire and breath, all he had he gave
The king left with a smile, at the money he'd save
To build his new weapons, it would use all his gold
So why not use the Dragon's - let him pay the toll

The king came to the Dragon in one month more,
And said that the kingdom was in another war
He didn't start it (he said knowing he lied)
But his warriors were failing, and many had died
A dragon's scales were incredibly hard hide
Armor made from them could turn the war's tide
The Dragon said "Yes, how much can I give?"
Said the king "All you have, is what we need to live"
The Dragon thought for a second, a short one too
His people couldn't suffer, only one thing to do
His scales and hide, all he had he gave
The king left with a smile, at the money he'd save
To build his army's gear, it would use all his gold
So why not use the Dragon's - let him pay the toll

The Dragon was cold and penniless
His cave and his being left worthless
Once mighty figure was worn and thin
Reduced to naught but second skin

But in walked a soldier, hurt and sad
The war and his people, had lost and lost bad
"The king led us poorly, it's such a sad tale
Our arms and money, both a complete fail
For our enemy was bold, clever and agile
We wasted our forces, and too many fell

"What can I do" asked the dragon confused
"All has been taken, there's nothing to use"
"The king did not take your significant part"
You see, this soldier knew the magical art
And he knew after the king took all the rest
He'd left what was needed, in the Dragon's chest
"Dragon, can I ask for a bit of your heart,
For the king while noble was not very smart
Treasure and weapons are in finite space
But nothing can match your limitless grace
You would give your own life, if we dare ask
If you help me I'll do this, and save you the task"

So the dragon handed him a small token of grace
And it spread in the army at a breakneck pace
They won fifty battles, and fifty besides
It would seem nothing or no one could turn their tide
The king thought he could beat any foe
As his kingdom grew large, so did his ego
But the army ignored him, and turned their back
For the heart of the dragon put them on the right track
The king was deposed, and banished from home
Sent to wander friendless, penniless, endless to roam

The dragon was well loved, and soon was revealed
Limitless care and affection, to aid while he healed
His treasure returned, his health was restored
To replace terrible pains, he was left well cured
To this day he still cares, his love will never cease
And lives in a good kingdom, with a good king and peace

No treasure, fire, might, or any king-noted part
Is worth but one scrap of the Great Dragon's Heart

To honor "Dragon" from "Red Coat"
Thank you for being a limitless friend

My brother that is one awesome poem and well deserved, as I can tell by just conversing with you here, you seem to be one hell of an NCO and a down to earth person. Take it easy and enjoy your holidays with your kids! :)
